Ivan held an Architect diploma from Universidad de Los Andes (ULA-1996) and a Master in Product Design (PgCert / PgDip / MA) from Birmingham City University (BCU-2006). He is currently pursuing doctoral studies at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (UFRJ, 2010).

Being one of the founding professors of the School of Industrial Design at ULA, he has taught Graphic Techniques and Design Workshops to students of the Bachelor of Industrial Design, since 1998. He is an aggregate lecturer in ULA.
