General Phonetics

• This is a file containing the names of the phonetic symbols.

• This is a good article from Wikipeadia about the International Phonetic Alphabet.

• The Little Encyclopaedia of Phonetics by Peter Roach is a good reference to look up phonetic terms.

• The Speech Internet Dictionary provides concise definitions of technical terms used in phonetics, phonology, speech and hearing science and allied disciplines.

Ear training

• The Sounds of English and Spanish from the University of Iowa

• The Sound Machines is a collection of interactive tutorials for the practice of several aspects of English pronunciation.

• IPA Help  Use this software for learning to hear, produce and transcribe the sounds of the International Phonetic Alphabet.

• Fonetiks.org offers several resources including samples in several English dialects, a pronouncing dictionary and practice with minimal pairs.

Fonts

•  IPA-SAM phonetic fonts windows compatible.

•  SIL Encore IPA versions for windows and mac.

Software

• Praat is a very versatile software for speech analysis. It offer many tools for phonetic research.

• Speech Analyzer is another application for speech analysis.
